Ascom expands nursing call system with voice functionality

To increase fire safety on their trains the Swedish Railway, SJ, has chosen to install Ascom messaging system when doing maintenance of 170 train sets. The total order is worth two million dollars. The installation will be done in stages throughout the spring.

- This is an important order for Ascom, which has a large focus on wireless communication of critical messages and alarms. Ascom has already delivered a number of schemes to train and this order consolidates our position in the industry, "says Bengt Nordén, Managing Director Ascom Sweden AB.

The installation will be made by the maintenance company EuroMaint on behalf of SJ.

Ascom messaging linked to the fire alarm, will give the train cabin personnel an alarm directly into their portable handheld device wherever they are on the train. This means increased safety for passengers on board because the train cabin crew can act quicker in an emergent situation.

The system can easily be expanded with more features to increase security and service on trains. For example the possibility for travellers to alarm if someone becomes acutely ill or behaves in a threatening manner.

Ascom messaging is especially designed for people with mobile jobs, to react on emergent situations and to keep up to date with information from different systems and from other users. Communication takes place via the wireless system, directly to the recipient's handheld device in the form of a text message.
