Ascom Wireless Solutions launches next generation medical alarm
Gothenburg/Sweden, May 22, 2012.
The Ascom Multiple Medical Alarm module, or the Ascom MMA for short. That’s the name of the next generation of medical alarms for efficient management of medical devices now set for international launch. Unique in so many ways that it basically lacks competition.
“Not only will it help to raise the efficiency level of any hospital ward, it will even free up space in the process by doing the same job as four of its predecessors,” says Jan Ringenier, Product Manager Nurse Call Products at Ascom Wireless Solutions.
Today the use of more than one alarm device per hospital bed is getting increasingly common, with normally very basic systems that offer merely that one function. Until now. The new Ascom Multiple Medical Alarm module, set to hit the market at the end of June, is easily and totally integrated with the Ascom teleCARE IP nurse call system – providing connection of up to four separate medical devices simultaneously. Along with several other all-new features.
”In creating the Ascom MMA we applied all our knowledge of acute hospital work and managed to combine a large number of longed for features in one easy to handle device. This is truly a one-of-a-kind product,” says Jan Ringenier.
The basic function of the alarm is to notify staff when a patient’s intravenous drip, for instance, is about to run out. Which is done discretely and instantly via the nurse call system. But that is just one of a long line of features. When released, the Ascom MMA will be the only product on the market with a multi-input safe-release design, meaning that the system allows for the different medical devices to be individually disconnected if their cord is pulled. Hence eliminating the risk of tipping over and damaging other equipment. One LED light lets users know when a product is connected correctly, and another shows if an alarm has been registered. Alarms are persistent and cannot be reset remotely. The intentional disconnect function lets personnel unplug connected apparatus without setting off the alarm, with each input individually isolated to secure that potential power surges do not effect other devices that share the Ascom MMA. Every connector is also monitored for wear by an integrated counter, which helps prevent unexpected device failure and facilitates planned maintenance schedules.
The new Ascom Multiple Medical Alarm module will be shown for the first time during the Hôpital Expo fair in Paris on the 22-25 of May, with the global launch set for the end of June.
