Master Thesis Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Background
Ascom Wireless Solutions is one of two divisions in the Swiss Ascom Group. Ascom Wireless, with the headquarter in Göteborg, is developing, producing and selling mission critical wireless devices like phones and pagers within the technologies of DECT, WLAN and UHF.
Every year more than 500.000 units are produced in Sweden, Thailand and China with 100% production verification. Today the data is stored in databases for statistical calculations and further analysis on demand. With the new SPC solution the target is to be more pro active and be able to have a more predictable production. The SPC solutions should be able to analyze the data in real time and take necessary decisions based on adaptive rules and guiding limits.
Work definition
This thesis will be divided into three sections.
- Define the needs and structure of the SPC solution for Ascom.
- Implementation of the core solution and integration of Ascom products and web user interface for alarm, supervising the system and being able to analyze the alarms.
- Test and verification of the total solution and documentation.
The implementation of the solution will mainly be done in stored procedures written in SQL (Structured Query Language). The user interfaces should be written in .NET for easy web interface everywhere.
The documentations should be done in Visio and Word.
Targets
The thesis should include the following tasks
- Study of SPC solution on market and the current Ascom database structure with already working functions
- Design of a complete SPC solution suitable for Ascom needs
- Implementation of core functions and analyzing tools
- Integration with alarm and supervising functions
- Test, documentation and education of the total solution
Start date of thesis is September to November 2008.
