Challenge
Today passengers travelling on trains operated by public commuter and mainline systems expect to receive full, up-to-date information on their journeys, particularly if and when disruptions occur. Besides these new customer requirements, railway operators must also satisfy more traditional information needs such as destination indicators and loudspeaker announcements in trains.
Solution
Railvox has proved its worth as a passenger information system in more than a thousand applications for many railway operators in commuter and mainline passenger systems. In recent years it has been developed further into a modern and online-compatible passenger information system capable of satisfying the increased requirements of railway operators and their customers. With Powerline technology it is possible to set up an IT-based backbone in complete train sets using the existing cable infrastructure in the coaches themselves. The backbone allows other IT-based systems such as video surveillance or automatic passenger count systems to be integrated into the trains simply and easily via the vehicle platform. The vehicle platform is also used to exchange data between centralised systems and the trains using GPRS or WLAN so that various systems on the trains can be operated with online capability.
