Many industries, such as those which produce pharmaceuticals or petrochemicals, have stringent rules determining what type of tools and equipment may be used. At the same time, they have the same need as other companies for efficient and reliable telephony, messaging and alarm-handling.

Explosive atmospheres can be caused by flammable gases, mists or vapours or by combustible dusts. If there is enough of the substance, mixed with air, then all it needs is a source of ignition to cause an explosion. Explosions can cause loss of life and serious injuries as well as significant damage.

The IEC EX certification ensures that the equipment or protective system is fit for its intended purpose and that adequate information is supplied with it to ensure that it can be used safely. All Ascom EX products meet these requirements.
