Swiss Army places major orders worth a total of CHF 85 mio. with Ascom
Ascom Security Solutions has been commissioned by armasuisse, the procurement and technology centre of the Federal Department for Defence, Civil Protec-tion and Sport (VBS), to deliver telecommunications equipment as part of the 2007 armaments programme. Winning the major orders, with a total value of CHF 85 mio., confirms Ascom’s leading position in the security communications market. The equipment will be supplied in 2008 - 2010.
The orders are mainly concerned with the supply of high-performance telecommunications equipment in connection with the second upgrade of the Swiss army's command and control system (FIS Heer). The mobile telecommunications platform is based firstly on the established and proven Integrated Military Telecommunications System (IMFS) and secondly on new equipment known as Com Rack and Com PC. The Com Rack and Com PC equipment is state-of-the-art and plays a central role in seamless, integrated communication at all army’s tactical levels. Most of this equipment is being fitted in vehicles and transportable containers, thereby guaranteeing secure voice and data communications within the army, including data links.
The order also includes delivery of a second tranche of equipment for the SE-240 tactical short-wave radio communication system. The short-wave radio system is used for voice and data communication over large distances.
Delivery of this new equipment gives the Swiss Army a basis for networked enabled operations in the form of a very powerful mobile telecommunications platform.
Riet Cadonau, CEO of Ascom, says: "Winning these important orders is an endorsement of Ascom's expertise in the integration of complex communications solutions and its leading market position in the field of security communications. Today's success in our home market stands us in good stead for an internationalisation of this business."
