Danish authorities select Ascom Wireless Communication System to improve security in prisons

Ascom Denmark A/S has secured a substantial order in a public tender from the Danish Prison Authorities for a wireless communication system with accurate positioning functionality to improve personal security for staff members. The order value is DKK 8 million (= CHF 1.6 million) in the first phase and will total over DKK 30 million (= CHF 6.1 million) when the complete system is installed.

With this investment, the Danish Prison Authorities are responding to the demand from personnel and unions to increase security for employees in prisons and custody detention centers in Denmark. The new wireless communication system provided by Ascom Wireless Solutions will be implemented in three phases and will cover six prisons and 34 custody detention centers. In total, the system will increase the personal security for about 3500 employees working in these institutions.

Ascom will supply an IP-DECT based personal safety solution which combines communication, personal security and positioning in a single handset for all staff. Thanks to IP technology, administration will be more efficient and costs lower, since all communication and personal security will be managed and monitored via a centralized system.
