C. C. Young, a premier, non-profit senior living community, has selected Intercom to provide numerous integrated resident and patient care technology solutions for its new transitional living building called "The Vista." These technologies will pioneer a safer, more interactive and supported resident, patient and family experience when the building opens in fall 2018.
Among the technologies being deployed throughout The Vista are Ascom's VoiP Telligence® nurse call system with integrated wireless phones. The phones will enable staff to stay in direct contact at all times with the residents assigned to their charge.
The wireless phone system will allow caregivers and ancillary staff members to remain mobile throughout the work shift, while staying in direct contact with others. The IP-DECT wireless phone signal transmission network is owned by C. C. Young, and it is highly reliable. The system will support wireless phone-to-phone communication even in the event of a major phone service outage.
A Versus Real Time Location System (RTLS) will also be installed to locate staff members, document and manage staff rounding events, and update the electronic white board located in each resident room. The RTLS system also enables staff to render reports regarding specific care and responses for each resident if requested by the resident's family.
The electronic white board (EWB) will display a photograph of each resident's assigned caregivers for ease of recognition by the residents, as well as temporarily display images and credentials of any non-assigned staff member currently in the room. Daily activities, physical therapy and other appointments will be displayed on the EWB as well. The EWB will allow C. C. Young residents to easily orient to their daily activity schedule and to more easily identify assigned caregivers as often as needed.
The EWB system will also notify caregivers of upcoming scheduled rounding events and care need time frames. As a result, staff will be acutely aware of their resident's daily schedules. This awareness will empower caregivers to make timely resident care decisions, such as recruiting a co-worker in the event they are prevented from rounding due to caring for another resident.
For residents that reside in Assisted Living and Memory Care, family members can take comfort in knowing their loved one will be monitored by Ascom's teleCARE® IP. This system provides an automatic resident check-in feature that will alert staff to check on residents that are not engaged in their normal routines. When residents need to reach caregivers, they simply press a necklace pendant which automatically alerts their caregivers' phone. The teleCARE® IP Fall Prevention feature will also automatically light the hallway in the event a resident should get up in the middle of the night.
