Ascom Recognizes Veterans Amongst Our Ranks

Innovation takes many forms: from creating communications and clinical workflow solutions to help hospitals create a design for better patient outcomes to identifying and improving internal organizational structures to make our company more effective and efficient. No matter what the innovation and where it happens, Ascom leverages the strengths of all its employees around the world to innovate. Today on Veteran’s Day we’re recognizing our Veteran employees who have served in the U.S. military. We talked with two of them about how they bring their service experience into their roles as Ascom.

Fritz Rummery – Head of Operations, Patient Systems, R&D

How has your service prepared you for your role at Ascom?

When I joined Ascom in 2012 with the GE Healthcare group I was still serving in the United States Navy Reserve as a Senior Enlisted member within the Cyber Warfare Command. As is widely known, the U.S. military is a melting pot of our society where you get the opportunity to serve with others who come from a wide and varied background of cultures. This diversity prepared me well for working with such a diverse group within Ascom.

What do you enjoy about working for Ascom?

Mostly it’s the people. We have so many dedicated professionals who support our products and customers around the world. It’s always challenging and engaging work we find ourselves performing on a daily basis, and also because our products make a difference in the Healthcare industry, where most of our solutions are sold.

Those that have served in the military, and not just the US military, bring a unique set of skills to our company well beyond their job description. Many of us have served in challenging environments or have been tasked with performing other functions outside our roles during our time serving. As an example, besides my daily role in Ascom of managing Product Training, Product Quality Engineers, and U.S. Test Teams, I am also tasked with maintaining building vendors, security, safety, etc. because of my experience in the military of doing similar functions as what we call “collateral duties”. Basically, there is never enough in the military people to do each job so the give you several.

Robert Roberts – Component and Configuration Engineer

How has your service prepared you for your role at Ascom?

My service reinforced my parent’s teachings on honesty, discipline, determination, work ethic, and can-do spirit. My training and love of electronics began in Navy technical training.  I use those basic skills daily.

What do you enjoy about working for Ascom?

I can bring my wealth of experience in many capacities to R&D and revision control.  I am respected for my work ethic and support I provide.

We don’t look or expect thanks personally.  We do not boldly state and display our honor of the military for ourselves – we do it so people always remember those who give of themselves now, those that gave much, and those that gave all.
