The integration of Alexa Smart Properties with Ascom’s orchestration platform for alert management and digital workflow design has resulted in Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living - helping to enhance residents’ quality of life
Alexa Smart Properties (ASP) for Senior Living is an enterprise-enabled connected care platform using voice activation. Part of the Alexa ecosystem, the experience is designed to support personalisation of residents’ care requirements, whilst enabling digital workflows for their carers.
With ASP, care homes are able to customise voice skills around their unique facilities. As a care provider, you can choose from thousands of Alexa skills, and you can even create your own. This all means that a resident can undertake tasks in a simpler way than before, such as requesting a cup of tea or turning lights on or off, through to selecting a radio station.
Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living has been chosen across care providers and assisted-living sites not just in the UK, but also France, Italy, Germany, Canada and the US.

By choosing ASP for Senior Living, care homes can enable their residents to be more independent, whilst feeling more connected. The alerts / requests from the resident via Alexa are sent to the right member of staff which supports more efficient and effective service design through digital workflows.
The member of staff can respond to the resident’s Alexa device that the request has been received and accepted, and act accordingly. This helps save carers’ time and allows them to focus on care, nursing or social activities with residents. Residents can even call their family and friends via Alexa-to-Alexa calling.
No personal information is shared with Alexa to use a device. Voice recordings and activity are not saved. Every Amazon Echo device within Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living includes many layers of privacy protection. Residents can also disable Alexa’s ability to respond at any time by simply pressing the ‘microphone off’ button on top of their Echo device.

The Alexa solution really has empowered residents’ independence – they can do everything by voice rather than using equipment that some may struggle with, such as smartphones. It’s a great communication tool and depending on the type of request or alert, it goes to the correct staff member to deal with wherever they are in the home, to which they can respond accordingly.
